Rose Hip Oil comes from the seeds of a specific variety of rose, Rosa aff. rubiginosa or Rosa moschate. These seeds come from the fruit left behind after a rose has flowered and dropped its petals. The Rose Hip Oil I’d like to recommend is from the Sukin range. Since applying Sukin Rose Hip Oil on my face, my complexion has improved. It is noticeably more radiant and smoother. Some sun spots have given way to brighter skin.  The oil glides smoothly on my skin and stays till my first face wash in the morning.

I would recommend applying a handful of drops throughout the face in the evening before sleep. Also apply on the sides of your eyes to smoothen fine lines. Ladies, admit it – sometimes, we take our skin care routines for granted. The stressful demands that life constantly shoves into our faces leaves us with no choice but to forego taking care of ourselves and putting other things first (paying the bills, going to work, catching on some Zzzz’s). Then again, we must not take our skin for granted, even if we’re tempted to merely slap on some face cream (or was it serum?) and hit the sheets most of the time.

That is why we’ve come up with the basics and essentials in skin care. Here, we present a step-by-step guide on how to make skin care routines as leisurely as a walk in the park. Trust us on this.

Step 1. Splash!

Wash your face first before anything else. Use a gentle cleanser which is tough enough to remove all the dirt and grime attributed to your daily grind. Remember, water is not enough to clean all of the impurities in your face.

Step 2. Exfoliate

Following facial steaming, use an exfoliating formula which removes dead skin cells to give you that vibrant glow. If you opt for a facial scrub, do it 2-3 times a week.

Below are some wonderful DIY facial masks ideas to keep your skin supple, smooth and radiant, using natural products you can find in your kitchen.  


Who needs Botox when you have bananas? That’s right: You can use a banana as an all-natural face mask that moisturizes your skin and leaves it looking and feeling softer. Mash up a medium-sized ripe banana into a smooth paste, then gently apply it to your face and neck. Let it set for 10-20 minutes, then rinse it off with cold water. Another popular mask recipe calls for 1/4 cup plain yogurt, 2 tablespoons honey, and 1 medium banana.


Using vinegar as a skin toner dates back to the time of Helen of Troy. And it’s just as effective today. After you wash your face, mix 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar with 2 cups water as a finishing rinse to cleanse and tighten your skin. You can also make your own facial treatment by mixing 1/4 cup cider vinegar with 1/4 cup water. Gently apply the solution to your face and let it dry.


Here’s another way to give yourself a fancy spa facial at home. Make a mask by mixing 1/4 cup powdered milk with enough water to form a thick paste. Thoroughly coat your face with the mixture, let dry completely, then rinse with warm water. Your face will feel fresh and rejuvenated.


If you’re looking for a quick pick-me-up that will leave you feeling and looking better, give yourself an oatmeal facial. Combine 1/2 cup hot — not boiling — water and 1/3 cup oatmeal. After the water and oatmeal have settled for two or three minutes, mix in 2 tablespoons plain yogurt, 2 table-spoons honey, and 1 small egg white. Apply a thin layer of the mixture to your face, and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Then rinse with warm water. (Be sure to place a metal or plastic strainer in your sink to avoid clogging the drain with the granules.)


Why waste money on expensive creams when you can treat yourself to a soothing facial with whole-egg mayonnaise from your own refrigerator? Gently spread the mayonnaise over your face and leave it on for about 20 minutes. Then wipe it off and rinse with cool water. Your face will feel clean and smooth.


You don’t have to go to a spa to give your face a quick assist:

• To cleanse your skin and tighten the pores, slather some plain yogurt on your face and let it sit for about 20 minutes.

• For a revitalizing facial mask, mix 1 teaspoon plain yogurt with the juice from 1/4 slice of orange, some of the orange pulp, and 1 teaspoon aloe. Leave the mixture on your face for at least five minutes before rinsing it off.


Pat your face with mild yellow mustard for a bracing facial that will soothe and stimulate your skin. Try it on a small test area first to make sure it will not be irritating.



Create a facial that both exfoliates and moisturizes by mixing the juice from 1 lemon with ¼ cup olive oil or sweet almond oil.


Who has time or money to spend at the local day spa, paying someone to tell you how awful your skin looks? For a little pampering, head to the refrigerator and grab an egg. If you have dry skin that needs moisturizing, separate the egg and beat the yolk. Oily skin takes the egg white, to which a bit of lemon or honey can be added. For normal skin, use the entire egg. Apply the beaten egg, relax and wait 30 minutes, then rinse. You’ll love your new fresh face.

Japanese Hair Straightening, also known as Thermal Reconditioning, is one very popular hair straightening technique you just might want to think twice about before having done.

Originating in Japan in the late 90’s the chemical products used in the process go by the names Liscio, Yuko and U.S. made Bio Ionics.

The treatment can take anywhere from 3 to 6 hours and involves numerous steps with costs ranging from $300 to $1,500, depending on the salon.

What to bear in mind?



A cheaper price should raise some red flags as to the quality of the chemicals used or the expertise of the stylist according to the experts.



The result is permanently straight hair but after 4 to 6 months any new hair growth will need to be treated as well. This usually costs close to the same amount as the original treatment because it is a more time-consuming process involving straightening hair closer to the roots.



Because of the chemicals and techniques used, you will not be able to curl the treated hair so you definitely want to take that into consideration beforehand.


There is also a growing concern from some stylists that thermal reconditioning may not be the perfect hair straightening solution after all.

3.   In fact, a growing number of women are claiming serious hair breakage problems and it has been reported in the press that one of the top Hollywood celebrity hair stylists refuses to perform the treatment because she thinks it is too much of a risk to her client’s hair.


Many women are led to believe that the process is actually good for your hair but there have been no clinical studies to prove this and by definition anything that physically alters the hair structure at the molecular level is damaging.


Even though many women have had the Japanese Hair Straightening process done to their hair with great success, you should know that there can be some risks involved and if you decide to have it done to your hair, be sure you use a reputable salon with properly trained stylists that offers have your hair tested using the procedure.
