According to studies, fresh orange juice has several benefits. Besides providing us with Vitamin C, as most of us know, fresh orange juice also shields us from inflammation. In addition, the hesperidin which is a water-soluble plant pigment contained in orange serves to improve the activity of small blood vessels, blood pressure and decrease cardiovascular risk. Regular orange juice consumption may lead to the decrease in bad cholestrol which causes chocked arteries.
I’ve tried squeezing oranges manually for breakfast. It took 3 oranges to fill up an average-sized glass. If you’d like your family to drink fresh orange juice on a daily basis, it is cheaper to buy the fruit in bulk at the market. Squeezing the orange can be a chore if done on a daily basis so using a juice extractor is a better option. My advice is to squeeze the right number of oranges to fill a huge tumbler to store for up to three days before starting the process all over again.
You can choose to drink the juice with or without pulp. To remove the pulp, squeeze the juice over a strainer to collect it. Personally, I think the juice with pulp is more wholesome and filling. Without it, the orange juice tastes lighter. No matter how you’d like to drink it, drinking home-made juice has an added advantage compared to purchasing commercially made ones – it is fresh and refreshing.
Another good thing about fresh home-made orange juice is that it doesn’t contain added sugar or ice. Ask for seedless oranges the next time you go marketing.
