THREE DIY HOME DECORATIONS

You don’t have to be a skilled carpenter or a master craftsman to take on DIY decorating projects for your home. In just a few hours, you can create decorative items for your home that are as functional as they are attractive. These three DIY home decoration projects require no prior DIY experience. With a little imagination and a dose of patience, you can decorate your home with objects that you can proudly declare that you made on your own.

Quick and Easy Coffee Trays

Coffee table trays aren’t just for serving beverages. They offer clutter-free storage for items like remotes, magazines and coasters too. They also make an on-trend fashion statement that can elevate the style of your living room, family room or den. A coffee table tray is a simple DIY project that you can complete in an afternoon.

Making a coffee table tray is quick and easy if you have a discarded panel cabinet door on hand. Just fill any holes with wood filler, allow the filler to dry and sand the surface until smooth. You can then paint or stain the door in your favorite color or finish. Attach handles to the sides, and you’re ready to serve beverages and snacks to family and friends in style.

Customized Side Tables

Square-shaped side and end tables are available from home retail stores for around ten dollars each. Stock up on these affordable yet durable tables and top them off with a custom surface for a unique and personal look. Use the following tabletop-finishing ideas to customize tables in every room in your home:

  • Self-Adhesive Tiles. Designed for backsplashes, these squares of glass or ceramic tiles come with a peel-and-stick backing. There’s no grout or mortar involved. Simply peel off the attached backing and apply it to the tabletop for instant style.

  • Paving Stones. Large square stones cut for outdoor use can be glued to a tabletop using molding adhesive. For easy application, choose a stone that’s slightly larger than the tabletop.

  • Cork. Easy to cut and apply, cork can be fixed to a table surface using wood glue. Nail molding to the edges to give the tabletop a finished look.

Light Up Your Creativity

Hanging lamp kits, also called pendant light kits, make it easy to turn just about any non-flammable object into a hanging lamp. Basic kits are available that plug into ordinary electrical sockets. At the other end of the cord is a threaded ring that’s screwed around a light bulb socket. Simply unscrew the socket ring, slide the socket through a hole made in your chosen object and screw the ring back in place to secure the lamp.

Because there’s no drilling involved, one of the easiest objects to transform into a pendant lamp is a bowl-shaped basket, provided that you can slide the lamp’s socket through an opening in the basket’s weave. Wire colanders are another easy option. If you’re handy with a drill, metal bowls, paint cans and even glass containers can be transformed into beautiful hanging lamps.

DIY home decoration projects provide easy and affordable ways to add beauty and function to your home. They’re a great way to showcase your personality and creativity too.
