FOOD REVIEW: PAPPARICH

Chili Pan Mee and Blended Red Bean Drink from Singapore Outlet
Pan Mee Soup from an outlet at Pappa Rich in NSW, Australia

PappaRich has many branches in the Asia Pacific region including Australia. It serves Malaysian dishes which includes roti with curry, Hainan bread and lunch dishes such as Nasi Lemak, biryani, char kwey teow and asam laksa . I have tasted PappaRich dishes in Australia and Singapore and below are my findings.

Serving Portion

I recently ordered Pan Mee Soup from Waterway Point in Singapore. By the way, Pan Mee consisted of flour noodles served with minced chicken, fried anchovies, chili pan mee paste, mushrooms, fried shallots, spinach, topped with half boiled egg. One thing that struck me was the portion size. It is far smaller than the dish served in the outlets in Australia. Refer to the two photos above. The pan mee soup served at a Pappa Rich outlet in Sydney, Australia looks more appealing and it is more hearty. Portion serving is much bigger.

Cost

Though the prices for the food and drink are much cheaper in Singapore, the total price is more expensive as service tax and GST are added.

Taste

The Pan Mee Soup was not as hearty and tasty as the one I tried in Australia. Even the chili that came on the side was different. (Refer to photo above) Despite this, I liked the ice blended red bean drink. It was refreshing and flavourful. Since I have reduced my sugar intake drastically since the past two years, I asked for less sugar to be added in the drink. I enjoyed it that way.

Verdict

Overall, I would rate three out of five stars for service, food and cost. Would I ever step into a PappaRich restaurant in Singapore again? No is the answer. I’m spoilt for choice when it comes to lunching out in Singapore. I would, on the other hand, visit PappaRich restaurants in Australia for the value for money factor.
